New Pop Festival
The SWR3 New Pop Festival has been taking place annually on a weekend in September in Baden-Baden since 1998 . From 1994 to 1997 the previous broadcaster SWF3 hosted this festival.
With the help of this festival, the radio station introduces new musicians and bands ( newcomers ) from Germany and abroad to a wide audience. In addition, numerous well-known artists and bands also appear in the so-called SWR3 New Pop Special .
The sometimes unusual venues are remarkable. The concerts initially took place in the Baden-Baden theater , SWR-TV-Studio 5, in the old Baden-Baden train station and in a Mercedes-Benz assembly hall in Rastatt , where the tapes stopped just before the concert began . For several years, see the concerts in Theater Baden-Baden, Festspielhaus Baden-Baden and Baden-Baden Kurhaus instead. There is also a public live stage in front of the Kurhaus, on which the festival artists give star talks and unplugged performances during the day, and additional half-hour unplugged concerts take place in the evening.
Award
The festival's most popular band has been awarded the A-ward created by DaimlerChrysler and SWR3 in the past . The main prize for the audience jury was a car ( Mercedes-Benz A-Class ). A ward winners include Anastacia (2000), Soraya and Xavier Naidoo, as well as groups such as The Fugees , Bloodhound Gang and Wonderwall . In 2006, Corinne Bailey Rae received the Audience Award in front of the Scissor Sisters .
Since 2007, SWR3 has been awarding the “SWR3 Pioneer of Pop” award (2007: Joe Cocker , 2008: Udo Lindenberg , 2009: a-ha , 2011: The Scorpions , 2019: Die Fantastischen Vier ) and also “SWR3 Pioneer of Rock "(2013: Die Toten Hosen , 2014: Lenny Kravitz ) or" Newcomer Award "(2010: Lena , 2012: Loreen ).

Broadcasts
Festival concerts and highlights are broadcast on SWR3 festival radio and online on SWR3.de. EinsPlus broadcast all concerts live on television until 2016 . From 2017, the ARD digital channel ONE is the new television partner of the SWR3 New Pop Festival and shows the concerts as well as the special and other programs with a time delay. The concerts will still be broadcast live on swr3.de. Nationally, TV stations such as SWR TV , 3sat and Arte are included . The first is broadcast by the SWR3 New Pop Festival - the special broadcast with a delay. This program ran on ZDF until 2010 .
