Macy Gray
Macy Gray (* 6. September 1967 as Natalie Renee McIntyre in Canton , Ohio ) is an American R & B - singer . She received a Grammy in 2001 for the song I Try .
Life
Macy Gray was born in Ohio in 1967 and grew up there. After attending the Western Reserve Academy in Hudson , she moved to Los Angeles in 1998 . She had her first commercial appearance as a guest singer on the song Love Won't Wait of the 1998 debut album Behind the Front by the Black Eyed Peas . In Germany she became known, among other things, because the station SWR3 invited her to the New Pop Festival in 1999 after a few radio recordings .
In 2001 she won a Grammy in the category Best Female Pop Vocal Performance - Pop for her hit title I Try , which was also nominated for Single of the Year and in another category. She then worked with Fatboy Slim , the Black Eyed Peas and Slick Rick on The World Is Yours , which appeared on the Rush Hour 2 soundtrack . She first appeared as an actress in the film Training Day .
When she lost the lyrics while singing the American national anthem The Star-Spangled Banner in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2001, she was booed. Her album The Id , released that year, was a commercial failure. The release Sweet Baby , on which John Frusciante and Erykah Badu collaborated, reached number 11 in the US charts.
She then appeared briefly in the Sam Raimi film Spider-Man (2002) as well as Around the World in 80 Days with Jackie Chan , Scary Movie 3 and Training Day . In Spider-Man , she played herself in an appearance at the fictional World Unity Festival .
In 2002 she worked on Santana's album Shaman and released her third album The Trouble with Being Myself the following year . In 2005 the Macy Gray Music Academy opened . On April 22, 2007 , Gray performed as a musical guest at a Prince concert .
Macy Gray was married to Tracy Hinds from 1996 to 1998, with whom she has three children.
