Fatboy Slim
Fatboy Slim (born Quentin Leo Cook in Bromley , London on July 31, 1963 ) is a British musician . Other pseudonyms under which he publishes his music are Norman Cook , Pizzaman and Son of a Cheeky Boy .
life and work
He initially celebrated success as a bass player with The Housemartins , a. a. with the song Caravan of Love . His solo career began in 1988. In 1989 he founded the band Beats International with Lindy Layton , which existed until 1991. In 1993 he formed the house project Pizzaman with John Reid and the Mighty Dub Katz with Gareth Hansome alias GMoney. He was also a member of the funk pop band Freak Power between 1994 and 1997 . They released two albums , including the radio hit Turn On, Tune In, Cop Out .
With his numerous remixes, he set the standard for the genre of music (for example Brimful of Asha from Cornershop ) that later became known as Big Beat . However, his broad stylistic spectrum extends to house and dance floor productions. His biggest hits as Fatboy Slim include Right Here, Right Now and The Rockafeller Skank , which was the theme song of FIFA 99 , and Praise You .
His music videos are also well-known , which, among other things, deal with the history of human evolution in a humorous way ( Right Here, Right Now , director: Hammer & Tongs ) or show an amateur dance troupe dancing happily ( Praise You , director: Spike Jonze ). The video for Weapon of Choice starring Hollywood star Christopher Walken (directed by Spike Jonze) won the “Best Video of All Time” vote from the list of the top 100 music videos in April 2002. These were put up for election in a survey of musicians, directors and managers in the music industry by the British music broadcaster VH1 .
Big Beach Boutique , the free party hosted by Fatboy Slim , for its second edition in July 2002, drew around 250,000 people to dance on Brighton Beach . Documentation of the event was released on DVD. As The BPA (The Brighton Port Authority) he works with artists such as David Byrne and Dizzee Rascal . In August 2008 the first Science Faxtion album was released, on which he also worked.
