biography

Cook founded Beats International a year after his band The Housemartins broke up . With the first single Dub Be Good to Me , a Dub - Reggae - cover version of the hit Just Be Good to Me the SOS Band from 1983, reaching Beats International beginning in March 1990 number one of the British singles chart and stayed there for four weeks. In the German single charts , the song made it to number four. The sample is originally from The Clash (Guns of Brixton) .

The follow-up single Won't Talk About It , which Cook originally recorded with Billy Bragg , also reached the top ten in Great Britain. Four other singles were placed in the English charts, but only achieved average placements.

In 1991 Cook broke up the band and turned to his new project Freak Power . Norman Cook later had his greatest solo successes under the name Fatboy Slim .
