In early 1974 the song reached the top of the Billboard singles chart in the United States . In 1990 the piece was used in an advertisement by Levi Strauss & Co .; The title rose to number 1 in the UK Top 40 for two weeks in September and also reached the top of the charts in several other countries, such as the Netherlands and New Zealand. In 2001 , the band Fettes Brot celebrated success in German-speaking countries with a translated version of the song.

The line Really love your peaches, wanna shake your tree / Lovey dovey, lovey dovey all the time refers to the Clovers classic Lovey, Dovey from 1954.
