Melanie Fiona
Melanie Fiona Hallim (born July 4, 1983 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a Canadian R&B singer.
biography
Fiona's parents immigrated to Canada from British Guiana and both were musicians themselves. Her father is a band guitarist and took her on stage when she was young. Until 2003 she was a member of the R&B trio Xquisite , which also included Andreena Mill and later MTV presenter Nicole Holness. With No Regrets , the group had their biggest hit in 2002.
Her solo career then took her time. She was discovered by Steve Rifkind in 2007 and signed by Universal. After that she had appearances with artists like Akon , who had also been discovered by Rifkind, and Robin Thicke and in 2008 she was in the opening act for Kanye West on his European tour, but without having published anything herself by then. In 2009 she recorded the remix single for Give It to Me Right with the Swiss rapper Stress . Further collaborations will follow.
Her debut single, Give It to Me Right, only appeared in Canada in spring 2009 . The song builds on the background of the hit Time of the Season by the zombies . It peaked at number 20 on the Canadian Billboard charts and shortly afterwards at number 57 on the R&B charts in the United States. The song was then released in Europe, where it also proved to be successful and reached the top 10 in Italy and Switzerland, among others . In July 2009 the debut album The Bridge was released . Fiona topped the Swiss charts for seven weeks with the single Monday Morning and in 2010 the song also reached the top 5 in Austria.
