Jess Glynne
Jessica Hannah "Jess" Glynne (* 20th October 1989 in Muswell Hill , London , England ) is a British pop - singer and songwriter . She has had seven number one hits in the UK charts so far , the record for most number one hits by a British artist. The song Rather Be , which she released with Clean Bandit , won a Grammy . According to sources and record awards, she has sold more than 27.9 million records in her career, including over 15.9 million in her home country alone. Glynne's most successful release is the single Rather Be with over 8.3 million units sold.
Career
Jess Glynne grew up in north London and had an early relationship with the music business through her mother, who worked in the A&R division of Atlantic Records . She attended Fortismere School , a renowned school with a musical branch. She applied to talent shows and musical theater performances, but had little success. After graduating from school in 2008, she worked in various jobs and only pursued her music career on the side. Eventually she found a job with a management company, where she learned a lot about the music business and made new contacts.
After finding the right connections, she left the company in August 2013 and signed a recording deal with Atlantic Records . One of her first record was the song Rather Be as a singer for the British electro - band Clean Bandit . It was released in January 2014 and was number 1 on the UK charts for four weeks . The song sold over 1.1 million copies by the end of the year and was the second top selling song as well as the most streamed song of the year. The song also became an international hit and reached the top 10 in many countries and number 1 in Austria and Germany, among others. In the USA it was sold over two million times, in England over 1.8 million times and in Germany about one half a million times and got the corresponding awards. At the 2015 Grammy Awards , the song won the Best Dance Recording of the Year category.
Just six weeks after the first release, their next recording was released, the song My Love with the London DJ Route 94 , which also entered the UK charts at number 1. It reached number 14 in the annual charts. Internationally it was not quite as successful, but it also made it into the charts in most countries and was also awarded a gold record in Germany.
In July 2014, Glynne released her first own chart single, Right Here , which, however, did not go beyond number 6 in her home country and received little international attention. That's why she teamed up with Clean Bandit again at the end of 2014 and had a number 2 hit in the UK and Germany with Real Love . In March 2015, she finally managed her first own number one placement with Hold My Hand . Just three months later she had another number one with rapper and MC Tinie Tempah and Not Letting Go, and just two months later she topped it for the fifth time with her own single Don't Be So Hard on Yourself . She is only the second British singer after Cheryl Cole to have so many number one positions in the UK charts.
The last single was also the pre-release for their first album I Cry When I Laugh , which was released on August 21, 2015.
In June 2019 she gave six concerts in Great Britain as a special guest together with the Spice Girls.
