Cheryl Cole
Cheryl Ann Tweedy (* the 30th June 1983 in Newcastle upon Tyne , formerly Cole and Fernandez-Versini ) is a British pop singer and member of the Casting - girl group Girls Aloud . She is still known by her interim name Cheryl Cole , but since her split from Ashley Cole she only publishes under her first name Cheryl .
youth
Cole grew up with four siblings in a social building in the northern English city of Newcastle upon Tyne . From the age of ten, she took dance lessons at the Royal Ballet's summer school . A number of advertising contests followed, including that of the prettiest baby in the Boots Group's pharmacy chain, the search for the Happy Faces portrait of British fashion house Mothercare and the Little Attractive Miss and Mister and Most Girl competitions on the Evening Chronicle . She was also featured in two advertising campaigns for British Gas, a campaign for SCS and, together with her younger brother Garry, in a Christmas campaign for the local Eldon Square. As part of dance performances, she also made her first television appearances.
She attended Walker Comprehensive School in Newcastle and left when she was 16. She was suspended there twice during her school years. After school, Cole worked as a waitress in a restaurant.
Music career
Girls Aloud (since 2002)
In 2002, she applied with the song Have You Ever on the British talent show Popstars: The Rivals (German: Popstars: Das Duell ). Ultimately, she was elected along with four other candidates by the jury, consisting of Pete Waterman , Louis Walsh and Geri Halliwell , on November 30, 2002 in the band called Girls Aloud.
The group's debut single, Sound of the Underground , was a number-one hit on the UK charts and number-one Christmas in 2002. Girls Aloud set the record for the fastest number-one spot after starting one Group one. In May 2003 the group released their debut album Sound of the Underground , which went platinum in the UK. As of 2003, they achieved 20 consecutive top ten hits, including three singles at number 1 in the British charts. Two of their albums reached the top of the UK album charts. All five of the band's albums went platinum in the UK. In 2009, the group won the BRIT Awards for Best British Single with the song The Promise . To date, Girls Aloud have sold over 10 million CDs worldwide. In 2007 they got an entry on the Guinness World Records as "Most Successful Reality TV Group".
In July 2009 Girls Aloud announced that they would be taking a break to devote themselves to solo projects.
2009–2010: 3 words
In 2008, Cole made recordings for the first time without Girls Aloud when she contributed the vocals to the single Heartbreaker by the US rapper will.i.am. The song reached number 4 in the UK charts. In the music video for the song, Cole played a street dancer. She had previously learned street dance while recording the ITV2 series The Passions of Girls Aloud .
In April 2009, Cole stated that she was working on solo projects and her debut album. Her debut album 3 Words was released in her home country on October 26th, 2009. For this she worked again with will.i.am. Fraser T. Smith, Syience and the Danish producers Soulshock & Karlin, singer-songwriters Taio Cruz , Wayne Wilkins and Steve Kipner took care of the production. The album was recorded in Los Angeles and London . The album is influenced by contemporary R&B , dance-pop , house and pop music . Cruz was asked to write two songs for Cole's album. One of the two songs was Break Your Heart , which Cole refused. Therefore, Cruz recorded the song himself and was later able to land a number one hit in the United States. She named Three Syllables , Unveiled and the theme song 3 Words , a duet with Will.i.am, as her favorite songs on the album. For the theme song, she took inspiration from David Guetta's and Kelly Rowland's number one hit, When Love Takes Over .
The album stayed at number 1 on the UK album charts for two weeks and became their first solo number one album in the UK. On November 6, 2009, her debut album was awarded platinum there. At the end of October 2009 the title Fight for This Love was released as a pre-release . Her debut single reached number 1 in the UK and Ireland . The single was the fastest-selling single of 2009. The single also went platinum. Fight for This Love was number 2 of the best-selling songs in 2009. The song became a top ten hit in many European countries, and in several countries the song even reached number one on the charts. The song was also available in Germany since February 26, 2010 and was the theme song of the fifth season of Germany's Next Topmodel . In Germany the song reached number 4 in the single charts . In Switzerland it was awarded gold. According to Cole, the song was released as the first single because "the connection with the song was so fascinating". Many music critics praised Fight for This Love and predicted Cole's international breakthrough. The song 3 Words , a duet with will.i.am., was selected as the second release . This reached number 4 in the British charts. In Ireland, the song made it to number 7. In Australia , the song reached number 5 and was awarded platinum. Parachute was released as its third single in late 2009 and reached number five in England and Ireland. It was Cole's third top five hit in the two countries. From May to July 2010 Cole appeared in the opening act for the European concerts of "The END World Tour" of the Black Eyed Peas .
2010-2011: Messy Little Raindrops
In March 2010, Cole stated in an interview that she had started work on the sequel to 3 Words , which she hoped to release "later in the year". She started work on her second album in February 2010. Her second album entitled Messy Little Raindrops was released on November 1, 2010. The first single, Promise This , was released on October 24, 2010 and was her second number one hit in the UK and Ireland. She sings some parts of the song in French, which is supposed to relate to the children's song Alouette .
The main producer of the album was Wayne Wilkins, but Cole also worked again with Will.i.am as well as with JR Rotem , Starsmith and Al Shux. Guest contributions on the songs came from, among others, August Rigo, Dizzee Rascal , Travie McCoy and Will.i.am. Cheryl took the album title from a line of text from the song Raindrops . Cole said of it, "When it rains, everything gets fresh [...] that sounds hopeful." Like her debut album, Messy Little Raindrops was highly praised by music critics. Allmusic's Jon O'Brien , who gave the album four stars out of five, commented: “ Messy Little Raindrops is such a stunning pop album that it will propel you [Cole] into the pop premier league; the best are the songs Promise This , Amnesia and Happy Tears ”. Virgin Media's Johnny Dee describes Messy Little Raindrops as a "family-friendly album." The Polydor Records label worked with MediaCom to find out marketing strategies with which they could advertise the album, for example a Facebook page was created especially for the album .
2012–2013: A Million Lights and Reunion by Girls Aloud
In late September 2011, it was reported that Cheryl Cole had started work on her third studio album. In early January 2012 it was announced that she had finished the album in Los Angeles. On June 4, 2012 she performed with Gary Barlow at the Diamond Jubilee Concert on the occasion of the diamond jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II , where they sang the song Need You Now by the group Lady Antebellum . The reviews of this performance were consistently negative. Critics wrote that Cole "couldn't sing" and that one was "overwhelmed" by the performance.
In October 2012, Cole toured the UK. The A Million Lights Tour started in Belfast and consisted of 10 concerts.
Furthermore, the comeback of Girls Aloud was announced in October 2012 . The first single Something New from the new album Ten , a greatest hits album containing the band's favorite singles and four new songs, was released on November 18, 2012. This was able to place itself straight away at number 2 in the British charts. In February and March 2013 the band went on the Ten: The Hits Tour 2013 through Great Britain, Scotland and Ireland. After the last concert of the tour in March 2013, the band announced the final separation. Cole himself also announced that he would first take a personal break from the music business.
Since 2014: Only Human
In mid-2013 she started work on her fourth studio album, which was released in November 2014. During an interview on British television, she announced that the album would be called Only Human . For the album, she worked with her former bandmate Nicola Roberts, as well as with the rapper Tinie Tempah , who can be heard on the first single released on the album.
