Love Made Me Do It is a 2018 song by British singer Cheryl . It was written and produced by the artist herself, Natasha Bedingfield , Kylie Minogue , Nicola Roberts , Miranda Cooper , Dylan Cooper and The Invisible Men . It has not appeared on any album yet.
background
In Love Made Me Do It is Cheryl's first release since her breakup with singer Liam Payne , so rumors were circulating, the song constituted a settlement is with this but this denied the musician. the song would have been ready long before the relationship ended. In fact, the song went through several hands before it landed on her. First, the title was created during a songwriting session by Natasha Bedingfield, who was not yet sure who should sing it at the end. It was eventually passed on to Kylie Minogue, who changed the lyrics further and then left the track to Nicola Roberts. She was on good terms with her former Girls Aloud colleague Cheryl and regularly played pieces she was working on for her, from which she could choose for herself the ones she liked. In the end, Cheryl received Love Made Me Do It , which she worked on with Roberts.
Music and lyrics
Love Made Me Do It is a pop song with a minimalist production, which mainly uses drum computers as musical accompaniment to the interpreter's singing. In terms of content, the song addresses Cheryl's habit of falling in love often, even when a man is not good for her. She herself assumed various roles in relationships , from the "bad girl" to the "good wife". Instead of listening to her head, her heart would have ruined everything instead, but she herself rejects the guilt for these circumstances, since it is love that made her do this - and that would also be the case in the future.
Music video
The video clip , directed by Sophie Muller , shows Cheryl, partly together with other dancers , performing a choreography against a background that changes its color from black to white . The cut often uses the split screen technique, and transparent, differently colored rectangles and text passages are often faded in. From the second verse, the singer can also be seen in front of purple , pink and blue neon lights .
criticism
Love Made Me Do It received mostly positive reviews. After a long absence and after their disappointing album Only Human from 2014, it would represent a welcome return to old greatness. Instead of ingratiating on current trends, the musician dares to try something fresh and - unlike previous attempts to experiment - would manage this effortlessly. It was noticed that the track relies on minimalism and, in addition to the harmonies of the vocals, is primarily based only on percussion , and it would also be a promising contender for the title of catchy tune of the year. The song would also be lyrically her most personal to date and would offer a semi-humorous examination of her love life. However, there were doubts as to whether the title would be suitable as a lead single for a potential album and whether the singer would be able to initiate a comeback with it .
Particularly harsh criticism, however, was about an appearance by Cheryl on the talent show The X Factor . This was rejected in particular by the audience of the show and sometimes referred to as "painful", which was picked up by the British press. Her singing would have been crooked, and she was attacked for a moment in the choreography by licking her hand .
