Parachute is a song by British singer Cheryl Cole . The song was written by Ingrid Michaelson and Marshall Altman for Cole's debut album 3 Words (2009). The song was released on March 11, 2010 as the third and final single on the album. Parachute became Cole's third top 5 hit in a row in the UK charts and in Ireland . In 2011 the song was nominated for "Best British Single" at the BRIT Awards .

composition

Parachute is an up-tempo song written by Ingrid Michaelson and Marshall Altman. The song combines R&B rhythms with pop and synthpop melodies . The song uses drum kits for the rhythm, strings and pop music - hooks with cheesy vocals that have been compared to Britney Spears 3 . Cole used auto-tune effects for her singing . Originally, Cole considered releasing Parachute as the first single, but later decided to do Fight for This Love .

The lyrics have been criticized by some critics because of their "depressive" content. Cole also stated that the song featured the best lyrics from the album; "You are your own worst enemy, you'll never win the fight". Other passages like "I don't need a parachute, baby if I got you" could refer to Cole's love affair with Ashley .

Music video

The music video for Parachute was filmed at Eltham Palace in London in January 2010 and premiered on UK broadcaster T4 on January 31, 2010 at 12:20 pm UK time. Cole adopted the concept of the music video from her live appearance on her show Cheryl Cole's Night In ; Cole performs Latin American dances with Derek Hough and a group of other dancers. AlexandLiane directed the music video. Factory Films took over the production of the music video.

Digital Spy praised Cole's appearance in the music video and the Daily Mail praised Cole's dance choreography. For a short time the video got into controversy because Cole is supposed to represent the Indian deity Kali , which was later refuted.

Live performances

Cole first sang Parachute on her own show Cheryl Cole's Night In , which aired on ITV on December 12, 2009, Live. During the performance, she wore a "tight pink T-shirt with latex pants that were supposed to emphasize her body shape". Cole performed a Latin American dance with the dancer Derek Hough - winner of the US show Dancing with the Stars . The Daily Mail praised Cole's performance, saying that Cole "looked gorgeous, like a Spanish señorita when she performed the dance."

Cole also sang the track on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross on March 12, 2010 and in the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge, at Sport Relief on March 19, 2010, and on March 23, 2010 in the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge, where she also sang a cover version of Owl City's Fireflies .

After appearing live on Cheryl Cole's Night In , the song debuted at # 65 on the UK singles chart on December 26, 2009 due to downloads . On February 14, 2010 the song reached number 26 in the UK charts. At the end of March 2011, the song reached number 5 and became her third top five hot in a row in the British charts, as well as in Ireland. The song has sold over 600,000 copies in the UK and was awarded a Silver Record there. In New Zealand the song debuted on August 15, 2010 at number 11, where the song lasted for three weeks. In Germany , the song reached number 78 in Romania was Parachute Cheryl Cole a number-one hit.
