3 is a song by American pop - singer Britney Spears from her best-of album The Singles Collection , which by Max Martin and Shellback produced.

3 is an up-tempo electro-pop song, which is characterized by synthesizer and vocal effects. The accompanying music video was shot on October 5th and 6th and released on October 30th. In July 2009, during the European part of The Circus Starring: Britney Spears tour, Spears is met in Stockholm with the Swedish producer Max Martin and took the song with Martin and Shellback in Maratone studios. 3 was selected as the first single along with the release of The Singles Collection and was sent to radio stations for promotional purposes on September 29, 2009.

Music video

The music video was shot on October 5th and 6th, 2009 in Los Angeles . Directed by Diane Martel and choreographed by Tone & Rich. Fashion stylist GK Reid created the outfits together with Spears.

On October 15, 2009, some images from the video were released. It was posted on Spears' official website on October 30, 2009.

It's really fun as a director to see her in front of the camera. She's so creative with this stuff. The video is very simple, it's very, very minimal. So it's her, her, her. In the US, 3 debuted at number one and became Spears' third number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 after ... Baby One More Time and Womanizer . 3 is one of the shortest track songs to ever hit the top of the Billboard charts. The song also reached number one on Hot Digital Songs , with 255,000 download sales in its first week. In total, the song has sold over two million times in the USA, which means double platinum .

The song was also able to reach the top ten in Switzerland, Great Britain and Canada, as well as in eight other countries.
