Dream Within a Dream Tour was the third concert tour of the American pop singer Britney Spears . This tour presented their third studio album Britney and made guest appearances in North America and Japan.
background
On September 21, 2001, Spears announced a tour that they would start in two months. In February 2002, Spears announced that they would continue the successful tour. The tour was directed by Spears' choreographer Wade Robson . The stage was designed by Steve Cohen and Rob Brenner. The stage consists of a main stage and a "B-stage", which are connected by another long, narrow stage. Spears was delighted with the crane that lifted a floating island so that Spears could fly over the audience to the "B-stage". The setlist was largely made up of songs from the featured album, as Spears felt they would best reflect her personality. The songs from her previous two studio albums were also included in remix form by Wade Robson.
The show was divided into seven segments, the last being the encore. Spears opened the show by hanging it on a spinning wheel; when she sang ... Baby One More Time, she jumped from the floating island onto the stage with bungee cords, and in I'm a Slave 4 You danced in a jungle setting. Most of the performances were accompanied by extravagant special effects, including confetti, fireworks, laser lights, and artificial fog and snow. In the encore there was a water umbrella that pumped two tons of water into the stage. During the second part of the tour in 2002 some changes were made; several songs were mixed into unreleased songs. The show received mixed reviews from critics who praised the show for being innovative, but they criticized it for taking attention away from the music.
The Dream Within a Dream Tour was largely sold out and grossed $ 43.7 million. During the second show in Mexico, Spears left the stage after the fifth song due to a thunderstorm. The show was canceled, which caused an uproar in the audience. The Las Vegas show on November 18, 2001 was recorded by HBO and sold on DVD under the title Live from Las Vegas . This concert film won an Emmy in 2002 .
