Scream & Shout is a song by the American musicians will.i.am and Britney Spears for the fourth studio album #willpower . The song is the artists 'second collaboration after Big Fat Bass , which was recorded for Spears' album Femme Fatale . It was written by will.i.am and the Belgian songwriters Jef Martens and Jean Baptiste, it was produced by Jef Martens under his producer name Lazy Jay with additional post-production by will.i.am.
history
Initially the song should be called Sexy Sexy and be released on October 15, 2012, but this date was postponed by will.i.am, as parts of the album were illegally published in advance. Scream & Shout celebrated its radio premiere on November 19, 2012. The following music video was filmed by Ben Mor in October 2012 and premiered on November 28, 2012 on the US version of the talent show X Factor , where Spears has been a member of the Jury is. The song contains the words "It's Britney, Bitch!" From their hit single Gimme More from 2007. Reactions to the song have been mixed, many criticizing the heavy use of auto-tune while others described it as a dark club track. It also serves as the theme song for the Beats by Dr. Dre Color.
The collaboration proved to be a worldwide commercial success. Especially in Europe, the single rose to the top position in many countries, for example in Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom, but also in Canada and New Zealand and was also in the top 10 in numerous countries. The song peaked at number 3 in the United States.
At the end of February 2013, the German broadcaster ProSieben announced that Scream & Shout would be the theme song for the 8th season of the casting show Germany's Next Topmodel .
Charts
Scream & Shout first entered the chart on November 28, 2012 in the Spanish single charts at number 27, but fell out of the top 30 again the following week. After 13 more weeks, the song reached the top position for one week at number 1. In France the song debuted at number 6 and jumped to number 2 in the weeks that followed, and a few weeks later even to number 1 for a week. In the UK, the song debuted at number 2 and later jumped to number 1. It became will.i .am's fourth top 5 hit in a row. It's also Spears' first top 5 hit since their single Womanizer , which peaked at # 3 in 2008.
Scream & Shout achieved great success in Europe, debuting at No. 4 in Denmark, rising to No. 1 the following week and staying there for a total of 4 weeks. In the Netherlands, the song also made it to the top position after 4 weeks. It stayed there for 7 weeks. It is the first and fourth top ranking for will.i.am in this country. In the Belgian part of Vlanderen, the song also achieved the highest ranking after 3 weeks and stayed there for a full 8 weeks. In the Wallonia part of Belgium, the song also reached number 1 and stayed there for 5 weeks. The collaboration was able to ensure success in the wider area of Europe; it reached number 1 in Ireland, Italy, Switzerland, Sweden, Austria, Finland and Norway, among others.
In the United States, Scream & Shout debuted at number 12 on the Hot 100 chart after reaching number 3 on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles the previous week . In the same week, the song also made it from # 66 to # 1 in digital sales. After a few weeks the single peaked at number 3.
In Canada, the song debuted at number 39 and peaked at number 3 the next week. After that, Scream & Shout was able to take first place.
In New Zealand, the song debuted at number 26 and made it to number 2 the following week. After staying at # 2 for another week, it peaked and was awarded gold for over 7,500 sales. The song reached # 2 in Australia and was also awarded gold for 35,000 sales. The song stayed at # 2 for seven weeks in a row and eventually went double platinum for 140,000 sales.
In Germany, Scream & Shout immediately reached number 10 in the singles charts on December 31, 2012 due to digital sales and ultimately rose to number 1 in its fourth week, where it stayed for nine weeks. It is Spears' third # 1 hit in Germany and the first since Lucky 13 years earlier. For will.i.am it is the first hit as a solo artist who has reached number 1 position in Germany. The single was awarded 3 × platinum for over 900,000 units, making it Spears' most successful single in this country. In the ten-year history of iTunes Germany, it is even the most successful song.
In the worldwide iTunes charts, the song cracked the previous record of Adele's song Skyfall . This song reached the top of the iTunes charts in 51 countries, Scream & Shout made it in 64 countries, only one song has broken this mark: Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke. This song made it to number 1 in 67 countries.
