The Femme Fatale Tour is a concert tour by the American pop music singer Britney Spears , which started on June 16, 2011 in Sacramento / USA and ended on December 10, 2011 in San Juan / Puerto Rico . The tour included 79 performances, 39 of them in North America, 26 in Europe, 13 in Central and South America and, for the first time, a concert in Dubai.
background
In an interview with Ryan Seacrest on his radio show on March 4, 2011, Spears announced a tour of the United States. After performing on Good Morning America on March 29, 2011 , she announced that Enrique Iglesias would be accompanying her on tour. Only hours after the announcement, the Billboard reported that Iglesias did not want to go with them. Billboard's Ray Wedell suspected that Iglesias didn't just want to act as an "opening act". The first 26 concert dates were announced on March 29th. Three more dates were added later. Nicki Minaj appeared in the opening act of their tour through North America , who was replaced by Joe Jonas for the appearances in Europe .
development
In March 2011, Larry Rudolph, Spears' manager, confirmed Jamie King as director and Brian Friedman as choreographer for the tour. Both were already involved in the circus tour. On April 21, 2011 Friedman announced his departure from the team, citing the reason that he was already working on other projects. On April 30, 2011, Spears posted a video showing her rehearsing for her tour. On May 11, 2011, Sabi, who together with Spears recorded the song Drop Dead (Beautiful) for the album Femme Fatale , announced on the sidelines of dinner for the St. Bernard Project, which was moderated by Spears, that she would be at I'll sing the song with Spears at a few selected concerts. Another concert date in Atlantic City was announced on May 26th . On May 30, 2011, Spears announced on Facebook that the tour would also take place in Europe. On June 6th, a total of seven new dates were announced for England alone. Four concerts were planned for The O₂ in London alone . A video was posted on their website on June 7th showing Spears the stage for the tour for the first time.
On June 10, 2011, selected fans and representatives of the press, including Perez Hilton , were invited to one of the last rehearsals before the start of the tour. All of the invited guests gave positive feedback. In addition, a countdown to the start of the tour was set on their website, with a new video of the rehearsals being published every day.
On July 26th, Spears announced new dates in South and Central America during a live broadcast. During the broadcast, only five dates were announced for the time being, followed by another four later. She also apologized to her fans for not coming to South America during The Circus Starring: Britney Spears tour and thanked them for their support. On July 27th there were four more dates for South America.
For the first time in her career, Spears also gave a concert in the United Arab Emirates . The concert took place on November 11, 2011, one day before the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix .
On November 30th, the Mayor of Mexico City confirmed via Twitter that Spears would give a free concert in the city. The concert took place on December 4th in front of about 80,000 people in the Placa Monumento a la Revolución in the middle of Mexico City.
Concert description
The show, which is divided into five segments, tells a story in which Spears is a secret agent and is pursued by a stalker played by Rudolf Martin . After a neon sign saying "Femme Fatale" is lifted off the stage, the show begins with a video in which Britney Spears is arrested by police after a chase sequence. In the video, she says, "I'm not that innocent". After the video ends, the screen opens and Spears appears, sitting on a metallic throne in a silver costume , singing her song Hold It Against Me . The second song is Up N 'Down (also from their album Femme Fatale ). During the performance, Spears and her female dancers are locked in cages. After walking around the B-stage on a conveyor belt, Spears dons a white trench coat and dark sunglasses and sings her song 3 . Then she goes on a platform at Piece of Me and hovers over the stage. This is followed by a break, underlaid with a video that contains parts from the video for My Prerogative . During the video, the viewer learns that Britney Spears is a secret agent. The next section begins with Spears in a pink latex body and jacket , while she sings Big Fat Bass while will.i.am appears on the screen in the background. She takes off her jacket from the How I Roll show and gets into a pink Mini Cooper convertible. During a short break, a male member is taken from the audience and brought to Spears. During the performance of Lace and Leather , she dances around him and wraps her legs around his neck from behind. After a costume change, Spears goes over to the song If U Seek Amy , she wears a white mini skirt and dances; this part is reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe's legendary scene in The Seven Year Itch (1955).
During the performance of I Wanna Go , members of the audience are brought on stage to dance to the song with Spears. A video clip in which the stalker talks about the femme fatales in the story begins the third section. Spears reappears on stage in a gold outfit and performs an Egyptian-themed version of Gimme More , with a barge and fireworks. In her next number (Drop Dead) Beautiful , Spears is surrounded by her dancers with picture frames, this appearance includes an appearance by Sabi, but only in selected cities. Then she sings the song Boys (Co-Ed Remix) . After climbing into a swing, she begins Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know while an acrobat hangs from her. After another video plays, Spears and her dancers in motorcycle clothing come on stage to dance to a medley ... Baby One More Time and S&M . During the next song Trouble for Me , Spears is accompanied by her dancers on the B-stage. Her song I'm a Slave 4 U is followed by a cover version of Madonna's Burning Up . She dances on the tip of a huge silver guitar. Then she sings Womanizer with her dancers disguised as police officers and thanks the audience. The encore begins with a video clip in a Spears kimono. She then sings her song Toxic in a kimono while her dancers dance on stage dressed as ninjas. At the end of the song, she goes under the stage and returns in a black glittery body for Till the World Ends . Halfway through the song, Nicki Minaj appears on stage and raps her verse of the song. After the song, Spears flies across the stage in a platform with huge angel wings. The show ends with Britney Spears and her dancers thanking the audience, confetti falling and the "Femme Fatale" sign lowered back onto the stage.
criticism
One day after its launch in Sacramento , Spears received positive reviews from the US press for the concept of the Femme Fatale Tour and its singing and dancing performances. After she was heavily criticized for her playback vocals during her last tour, The Circus Starring: Britney Spears , the Femme Fatale Tour was positively noticed that Spears sang live and only occasionally used background vocals.
A sold out show was reported from Sacramento itself. The Sacramento Bee , for example, wrote: "She performed the entire show like a pro. The sold-out hall was enthusiastic about Spears' outstanding songs from the start ”or“ It's so satisfying to see how relaxed it seems and apparently had just as much fun as the enthusiastic audience in the Power Balance Pavilion. ”
Rolling Stone magazine wrote, “Really, the evening was all Britney's own: she proved that she's still developing as a showgirl. And not only that, she does it better than even her die-hard defenders would have predicted. "
Following their shows in Nashville and Atlanta, Spears placed 10th on Billboard's Hot Tours List , grossing $ 1,563,934 after 2 concerts. Pollstar's website lists the tour as grossing $ 6.2 million after the first ten shows at number 55. On September 22, 2011, the tour was placed at number 6 in the Top 20 Concert Tours on the Pollstar website . By the ranking, shows in North America averaged $ 940,165 in revenue per city.
On December 9th, Billboard magazine published the list of the most successful tours in America. The Femme Fatale Tour took 19th place with 39 concerts, 14 of which were sold out. Income in America amounted to 37,100,000 US dollars and a total of 396,000 fans attended the concerts of the first stage. The Pollstar website published a list of the most successful tours of 2011 at the end of the year. Spears ranks 11th with total revenues of around $ 69 million. The average price of a ticket was $ 98.
Tour DVD
A live DVD of the tour has been released under the name Britney Spears Live: The Femme Fatale Tour . The DVD was recorded in 2D and 3D on August 13th and 14th during the concerts at the Air Canada Center in Toronto . The American TV channel EpixHD broadcast the recordings on November 12, 2011. The BBC will broadcast the 2D version on December 24th in Great Britain and Northern Ireland , the 3D version will follow in February 2012. This makes the tour one of the first tours ever to be broadcast in 3D. In the TV broadcast, the studio sound of the songs was partially superimposed on the live vocals at the direction of their management. In Germany, the DVD will be released on December 16, after the date had already been postponed twice due to production problems.
