The SSE Arena Belfast is a multi-purpose arena in the Titanic Quarter of the Northern Irish capital Belfast , United Kingdom . The hall is part of the Odyssey Complex sports and entertainment center , which also includes the Odyssey Pavilion and W5. The former Odyssey Arena has served as the venue for the ice hockey team of the Belfast Giants from the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) since 2001 . Furthermore, the arena is mainly used for concerts and shows as well as other sporting events.

The then Odyssey Arena was opened in 2001 after a two-year construction period. In the first year of its existence, the 2001 World Boxing Championships took place in the arena . The main sporting users of the arena are the Belfast Giants from the Elite Ice Hockey League, who have played their home games there since it opened. Other sporting events that take place in the arena include World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) events . After the 3Arena in Dublin , The SSE Arena Belfast is the largest multi-purpose arena in Ireland and the largest in Northern Ireland . It is also the main concert hall in Northern Ireland, where well-known bands and artists from all over the world regularly perform.
In October 2009 it was announced that the Odyssey Arena would be expanded to include two hotels, 800 apartments and new parking garages. The renovation costs are estimated at £ 100m. On November 6, 2011, the Odyssey Arena hosted the MTV Europe Music Awards 2011 .
In June 2015, the Irish wind farm operating company Airtricity , part of SSE plc , became the name sponsor of the event hall for ten years .
