The Sheffield Arena ( currently FlyDSA Arena through sponsorship ) is a multi-purpose arena in the English city ​​of Sheffield in the United Kingdom . In addition to sporting events, it is u. a. Venue for concerts , family shows (Disney on Ice) and comedy performances. The Hockey Team of the Sheffield Steelers of the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) plays its home games from the arena.

history

The arena was built for the 1991 Summer Universiade near Don Valley Stadium , it was demolished in 2014, built and inaugurated by Elizabeth II on May 30th of that year . The ice hockey team of the Sheffield Steelers was founded for re-use upon completion. From 1994 to 2004, played basketball team of Sheffield Sharks in the British Basketball League (BBL) in the arena, but attracted lack of spectator interest in the nearby English Institute of Sport in the Main Sports Hall has to offer. The WWE regularly hosts wrestling events in Sheffield.

In 2013 the hall was extensively renovated. It got a new roof, new seating, new doors, a new lighting system, new catering facilities and new toilet facilities.
