Sportsman of the Year (Great Britain)

The BBC Sports Personality of the Year award has been presented to a British athlete since 1954. The award is organized by the BBC and decided by public vote. It is the most prestigious general sports award in British sport. The record winner is tennis player Andy Murray , who has been named athlete of the year three times. Boxer Henry Cooper and Formula 1 drivers Nigel Mansell and Damon Hill were two-time winners .
