Robin Cousins (born August 17, 1957 in Bristol , England ) is a former British figure skater who started in a single run . He is the Olympic champion of 1980 and the European Champion of 1980 .

Robin Cousins, who started figure skating at the age of nine, comes from an athletic family. His father Fred, who always supported him, was a goalkeeper at Millwall FC . Cousin's trainer was Pam Davies at first and later switched to Carlo Fassi . At twelve he became national champion in the beginners and at 14 in the juniors. Then he switched to the seniors. 1973 to 1975 he was British Vice-Champion behind John Curry and after his resignation four times in a row British Champion. He made his debut at the 1973 European Championships and the 1975 World Championships . At the European Championships in 1977 he won his first major international medal with third place. The following year he repeated this and also won the bronze medal at the World Cup . In 1979 he was third in a row at the European Championships and vice world champion behind Vladimir Kovalev . In 1980, he won the European Championships in Gothenburg and the Olympic Games in Lake Placid, his greatest triumph. Both times he relegated Jan Hoffmann to second place. Only at the world championship he had to admit defeat to Hoffmann and became vice world champion. Also in 1980, he was voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year , Sportsman of the Year in Great Britain.

Then he switched to the professionals. He participated in Holiday on Ice and Ice Capades and successfully participated in professional world championships. He ended his professional career in 2000 because of knee and back problems. He then successfully transferred his talent and his flair for choreography and music to the stage. He played leading roles in the musicals " Cats " and " The Rocky Horror Show " and choreographed numerous ice and dance shows. The British Kingdom honored him for his outstanding artistic achievements with the title "Member of the British Empire" (MBE). He is still a guest commentator on the BBC and also an actor in London's West End. In the show Dancing on Ice he was a juror from 2006 to 2010. Robin Cousins ​​now has his own company, Cousins ​​Entertainment Ltd. He is also the patron of a meningitis foundation.
