Emmerich Danzer (born March 15, 1944 in Vienna ) is a former Austrian figure skater who started in a single run . He is the world champion from 1966 to 1968 and the European champion from 1965 to 1968 .

biography

Emmerich Danzer started figure skating at the age of 5. He went to a Catholic Piarist school in Vienna. Herta Wächter had been his trainer since 1953 .

Emmerich Danzer was four times European champion from 1965 to 1968 and three times world champion from 1966 to 1968 . He was considered to be dutiful, strong and charismatic. However, he did not win an Olympic medal. At the 1968 Winter Olympics he started as a favorite, but almost stopped at a compulsory figure and was then unable to perform it properly. This compulsory figure was then rated very low. He was only fourth. Even the best freestyle could no longer help him to get onto the podium. The audience did not agree with this decision. But unlike many other figure skaters, he did not feel cheated of victory.

In 1966 and 1967 he was Austria's athlete of the year . For a few years he was - secretly - in a relationship with the GDR runner Gabriele Seyfert .

From 1968 to 1975 he became a professional and performed at the Wiener Eisrevue and Holiday on Ice . From 1975 to 1989 he worked as a trainer in the USA. In addition, he sang some records.

Emmerich Danzer has been with an insurance company since 1989, where he is responsible for sports insurance activities and sports sponsorship. From 1995 to 1997 Emmerich Danzer was President of the Austrian Figure Skating Association . Since 2000 he has been President of the Vienna Ice Skating Club.

Together with Ingrid Wendl , he has been commenting on figure skating for years on the Austrian television broadcaster ORF .
