Live and act

Engelmann studied at the Technical University in Vienna and specialized in railway construction. The engineer Engelmann built, among other things, the Wienerbruck power plant , the Oberhollabrunn state medical facility and electrified the Mariazellerbahn as head of the Lower Austrian state railway office . In 1909 he built the world's first artificial ice rink on an area that his father, Eduard Engelmann, had created as an ice rink in Vienna- Hernals . In 1912 the largest artificial ice rink in Europe was built in Vienna on the Heumarkt and another artificial ice rink in Budapest in 1922. His children, Eduard (Edi), Helene and Christine, who later became Karl Schäfers ' wife , also found their way into figure skating.

The Engelmann artificial ice rink was further expanded and at the beginning of the 1930s also the new home of Pötzleinsdorfer SK, which under the new name EK Engelmann Wien advanced to multiple Austrian and German champions in men's ice hockey. In 1932 the ice surface was 3000 m². In 1936 an ice training hall measuring 17 by 32 meters was built.

In addition to figure skating, Engelmann also practiced cycling and is one of the founders of the Wiener Cyclisten-Club, from which the Wiener Sport-Club emerged in 1907 . He won the art driving championship of the German Cycling Association three times. Shortly after the death of Eduard Engelmann jr. Engelmann's artificial ice rink was completely destroyed in bomb attacks. It was rebuilt after the Second World War and reopened in 1946. Today there is a supermarket on the site, and there has been an ice rink on the roof since 1974.

In 1979 Engelmanngasse in Vienna- Hernals was named after him and his father.
