Per Ludvig Julius Thorén (born January 26, 1885 in Stockholm ; † January 5, 1962 there ) was a Swedish figure skater who started in single and pair skating . He is the European champion from 1911 .

Career

Probably the greatest sporting success of the two-time Swedish champion Thorén was the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in London in 1908 , behind his two compatriots Ulrich Salchow and Richard Johansson . A year later he was runner-up behind Salchow. He had already won bronze at the World Cup in 1905 . At European Championships he was after winning bronze in 1906 , 1909 and 1910 in 1911 in St. Petersburg finally European champion.

At the World Championships in 1913 Thorén appeared again in his native Stockholm, but in pair skating alongside Elly Svensson . As reigning Swedish champions, they finished fifth. A year earlier Thorén had won the Swedish couples competition alongside Elna Montgomery .

Thorén co-invented the Thorén jump named after him . This jump made it possible to jump at the end of jumps ( salchow , flip, etc.) jumped from the left foot in jump combinations , because it is the only jump that landed on the left in ice and roller art skating . He is also called Euler here. In English the Thorén is called "Half-Loop" because its jerky jumps indicate a Rittberger who has landed forwards to the left . However, the jump itself must complete one revolution. The jump itself never prevailed as an independent single jump; today it is only used in a simple execution as a connecting jump (example: Lutz , landing on the left foot, from which the jump takes place), Euler (jumping around with full turn to the left), Salchow (Jump from the left, landing on the right again).
