Ede Király [ ˈɛdɛ ˈkiraːj ] (born February 22, 1926 in Budapest , † August 10, 2009 in Ontario , Canada ) was a Hungarian figure skater who started in single and pair skating .
successes
In singles, the seven-time Hungarian champion won the bronze medal in the men's competition at the 1948 World Championships and was runner-up behind Richard Button in 1949 and 1950 . At the European Championships in 1949 he won silver behind Edi Rada , in 1950 he was European Champion in Oslo . He finished the Olympic Games in St. Moritz in 1948 in fifth place.
In pair skating, he was Hungarian champion with Andrea Kékesy in 1944 and 1947 to 1949. In 1948 the ice skating couple became European champions in Prague . At the World Championships in Davos and the Olympic Games in St. Moritz , they won the silver medal behind the Belgians Micheline Lannoy and Pierre Baugniet . In 1949 Király and Kékesy defended their European championship title in Milan and became world champions in Paris .
After the 1950 World Cup , Király and Kékesy stayed in London to escape the communist regime in their homeland. Then Király went to Canada and worked as a figure skating coach, including for Donald Jackson .
