Paul Lloyd Martini (born November 2, 1960 in Weston , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian figure skater who started pair skating .
His partner was Barbara Underhill . With her he became junior world champion in 1978 . From 1979 to 1983 they won the Canadian championships. They made their world championship debut in 1979 and finished in eleventh place. They won their first medal at their fifth participation in the World Cup in Helsinki in 1983 . There they won the bronze medal behind Jelena Walowa and Oleg Wassiljew from the Soviet Union and Sabine Baeß and Tassilo Thierbach from the GDR. Martini and Underhill celebrated their greatest success a year later at the World Championships in Ottawa , where they won the gold medal. It was the first world title for a Canadian couple since Maria and Otto Jelinek in 1962 . Then they ended their amateur careers.
Martini and Underhill contested two Winter Olympics , but could not win a medal. In 1980 in Lake Placid they finished ninth and in 1984 in Sarajevo they finished seventh.
Among the professionals, Martini and Underhill won 7 times at the World Professional Championships , 2 times at the US Open and 2 times at the Legends Championships . In total they won 26 gold , 4 silver and 5 bronze medals in their 21-year professional career together .
In April 1998 they ended their careers together with a farewell show, at which many famous figure skaters were guests.
