Jamie Salé (born April 21, 1977 in Calgary , Alberta ) is a former Canadian figure skater who started pair skating .

Early career

Jamie Salé started out as a single runner. At the same time, she later started pair skating with Jason Turner . With him she also finished 12th at the 1994 Winter Olympics . However, the couple separated in August of the same year. From then on Salé was again a single runner, but often suffered from injuries.

Return to pair skating

Jamie Salé tried pair skating with David Pelletier back in the summer of 1996 . However, this test did not result in the figure skating partnership. It wasn't until 1998 that they became a figure skating couple on the advice of coach Richard Gaulthier . In 2000 Jamie Salé and David Pelletier finished fourth in the world championship and the following year in Vancouver world champions . At the 2002 Winter Olympics , they became Olympic champions together with Jelena Bereschnaja and Anton Sicharulidze . They were initially ranked second. After it became known that the French judge was put under pressure during the evaluation and therefore voted for the Russian couple, the gold medal was subsequently awarded to them.

The Salt Lake City judges scandal led to a completely new rating system in the years that followed.

To Salt Lake City

After the 2002 Winter Olympics, Jamie Salé and David Pelletier turned professionals and worked for Stars on Ice . They married on December 30, 2005. They also served as commentators during the 2006 Winter Olympics. Salé is an athlete ambassador for the development aid organization Right To Play .
