Alfred "Fredl" Berger (born August 25, 1894 in Vienna ; † June 11, 1966 ) was an Austrian figure skater who celebrated his greatest successes in pair skating with Helene Engelmann . They started together for the Vienna Ice Skating Club .

Alfred Berger took part together with Helene Engelmann, who was already successful with Karl Mejstrik before the First World War , three times in Austrian figure skating championships in pair skating and was able to win them three times in a row from 1921 to 1923. In World Figure Skating Championships , they started twice and was 1922 in Davos and in 1924 in Manchester each win the world title. They also achieved their greatest success in 1924 at the Olympic Winter Games in Chamonix , where, as at the 1922 World Cup, they won gold in front of the defending champions Jakobsson / Jakobsson .

In addition to his ice skating career, Berger was also Austrian champion in rowing and bobsleigh . After his sports career, he owned a seed business. He was married to the opera singer Dagmar Schmedes , daughter of the Danish hero tenor Erik Schmedes (1868–1931), who had worked in Vienna for over 30 years .
