Maxim Leonidowitsch Trankow ( Russian Максим Леонидович Траньков , born October 7, 1983 in Perm , Russian SFSR , Soviet Union ) is a Russian figure skater who starts in pair skating . He is the European champion from 2012-2014, the world champion from 2013 and the Olympic champion from 2014.

biography

Trankov started figure skating at the age of eight. When he was 15, he moved from Perm to Saint Petersburg to find a new partner. First he found this in the later junior world champion Natalja Schestakowa (with Pavel Lebedew ).

After the 2002/03 season a partner swap took place. Trankow ran now with Marija Muchortowa and Schestakowa with Lebedew. In the following year, Muchortowa / Trankow won the bronze medal at the junior world championships and became junior world champions in 2005.

After this season they changed coach and went from Nikolai Velikow to Tamara Moskwina . Already in August of the same year, after a dispute with Moskvina, they changed coach and trained from then on with their assistant and double Olympic champion Artur Dmitrijew (1992 with Natalja Mischkutjonok & 1998 with Oxana Kasakowa ), before joining Oleg Wassiljew (Olympic champion with partner Jelena Walowa in December 2006) ) went. Muchortowa and Trankow start for St. Petersburg Skating School , St. Petersburg.

At the Russian championships in 2006, the couple finished third, but were not allowed to take part in international championships, as the Russian top couple, the reigning world champions Tatiana Totmjanina and Maxim Marinin, could not participate due to injury. Only after their Olympic victory and the subsequent resignation Muchortowa / Trankow occupy the third Russian starting place at the world championships, where they finished 12th.

2007 Muchortowa / Trankow were first Russian champions, but could not take part in the European championships due to an injury Muchortowas. At the World Championships they improved by one place compared to the previous year and came 11th.

In the following season they were defeated at the Russian championships by Juko Kawaguti and Alexander Smirnow , but won the silver medal at the European championships behind the Germans Aljona Savchenko / Robin Szolkowy and ahead of their compatriots Kawaguti / Smirnow. At the World Championships Muchortowa and Trankow took 7th place, where they had to interrupt their freestyle because Maxim Trankow had problems with the blood circulation in his right arm due to a too tight costume sleeve.

At Skate America , the start of the 2008/09 season, Muchortowa and Trankow surprisingly led the German world champions Savchenko / Szolkowy after a faultless short program. After a failed freestyle with three falls, however, they only finished third in the end. At the Trophée Eric Bompard in Paris , which took place a few weeks later , they took second place.

Since the 2010/11 season, Trankov has been playing alongside Tatyana Volososhar .

Volososhar and Trankov became Russian champions straight away in December 2010 and won their first world championship medal with silver in Moscow in 2011 . They achieved a total number of points of a remarkable 210.73 points. With that they established themselves as the greatest challengers of the three-time world champions Aljona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy .

In the fall of 2011, Wolososhar and Trankov won their first joint Grand Prix competition with Skate Canada . They were also victorious in the Eric Bompard Trophy . At the Grand Prix final, they were very closely defeated by 0.18 points to Savchenko and Szolkowy and set a new personal best in the overall performance with 212.08 points.

In the absence of their competitors Savchenko and Szolkowy due to injury, Wolossoschar and Trankow were European champions for the first time in Sheffield .

The 2012 World Cup in Nice started with an unusual dropout for the Russians. In the short program, Trankow had to get out of the death spiral. This and other mistakes meant only eighth place for the time being, the gap to Savchenko and Szolkowy was a considerable 8.15 points. In spite of all this, in the freestyle it was unexpectedly exciting again. Wolossoshar and Trankow had nothing more to lose and electrified the audience with their powerful and flawless freestyle to the film music of Black Swan . Savchenko and Szolkowy, on the other hand, did not make a mistake and lost almost their entire lead over the Russians. In the end, Wolossoshar and Trankow were only 0.11 points short of the title.

In 2013, Trankow and Wolossoschar were able to successfully defend their title at the European Figure Skating Championships in Zagreb , relegating the German couple Savchenko and Szolkowy to second place. At the World Championships in London , Canada , Wolossoshar and Trankow became world champions for the first time. They achieved a world record of points in the freestyle and overall performance.

At the 2014 Winter Olympics , the couple won the gold medal.

Trankov and Volososhar are also a couple in private and have been married since August 2015.
