Larissa Jurjewna Selesnjowa ( Russian Лариса Юрьевна Селезнёва ; born September 12, 1963 in Leningrad ) is a former Russian figure skater who started in pair skating for the Soviet Union .

Her figure skating partner was Oleg Makarov . They trained with Igor Moskvin . In 1980 and 1981 Selesnyova and Makarov became junior world champions . In 1984 they made their debut at major international senior tournaments. They finished their first world and European championships in fourth place and immediately won the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Sarajevo . In 1985 Seleznyova and Makarov became Soviet champions for the first time. With strong parallel triple jumps they won their first medals with silver at the World Championships in Tokyo and the European Championships in Gothenburg . They narrowly missed the gold medal behind the Olympic champions Jelena Walowa and Oleg Wassiljew .

Seleznyova and Makarov could not continue the upward trend they had experienced since the beginning of their careers. They became less constant in the following years. They made mistakes at the 1986 and 1987 World Championships and at the 1988 Olympic Games , finishing fourth and missing a medal. In 1988 they won their last medal at world championships with bronze behind their compatriots Walowa and Wassiljew as well as Jekaterina Gordejewa and Sergei Grinkow . At the European Championships, however, they were more successful. In 1988 and 1990 they became vice European champions and in 1987 in Sarajevo and in 1989 in Birmingham European champions. At the Soviet championships they won their titles two to four from 1988 to 1990. In 1990 they ended their careers.

Seleznyova and Makarov are married and currently work as a coach at the Ice Time Sports Complex in Newburgh , New York . They have a daughter and a son. Her daughter is the 2010 Russian champion, Xenia Makarova .
