Jelena Jurjewna Betschke ( Russian Елена Юрьевна Бечке , born January 7, 1966 in Leningrad , Soviet Union ) is a former Russian figure skater who competed in pair skating for the Soviet Union, the CIS and the United Team .

She initially competed with Valery Korniyenko from 1984 to 1987 . Together they won bronze at the 1986 European Championships .

From 1987 her figure skating partner was Denis Petrow . The couple trained with the well-known Russian pair trainer Tamara Moskwina . In 1989 they won the bronze medal straight away at their first World Cup in Paris . In 1991 and 1992 they became vice-European champions and in 1992 they were the last Soviet pair skating champions. The couple's greatest achievement was winning the silver medal at the 1992 Olympics behind their compatriots Natalja Mishkutjonok and Artur Dmitriev .

After this success, they withdrew from amateur sports and became professionals. After winning silver from 1992 to 1995, they became world champions there in 1996.

From 1990 to 1995 Betschke / Petrow were also married. Despite their divorce, they still started together with the professionals. Betschke also resigned from professional sports in 2000. She is married again and has a son (* 2002). Today she is a trainer in North Carolina .
