Stanislav Alexejewitsch Schuk ( Russian Станислав Алексеевич Жук ; English Stanislav Zhuk ; born January 25, 1935 in Ulyanovsk , Russian SFSR , Soviet Union ; † November 1, 1998 in Moscow ) was a Soviet figure skater who competed in pair skating and Russian figure skating .
He competed in pair skating alongside his wife Nina Schuk . With her he was a Soviet pair skating champion from 1957 to 1959 and 1961. In 1958 they became vice-European champions in Bratislava behind the Czechoslovaks Věra Suchánková and Zdeněk Doležal . It was the first medal for the Soviet Union at European Figure Skating Championships and the beginning of a long tradition of success for Soviet figure skaters, especially in pair skating. In 1959 and 1960 the Schuks were again runner-up in Europe, both times behind Marika Kilius and Hans-Jürgen Bäumler . At world championships they competed only twice, her best result was a fifth place in the World Cup 1960 . They finished their only Olympic Games in 1960 in Squaw Valley in sixth place.
After his active career, he became a successful figure skating coach. Among other things, he trained the two-time Olympic champions Irina Rodnina and Alexander Saizew ( 1976 and 1980 ), as well as the double Olympic champions Yekaterina Gordejewa and Sergei Grinkow ( 1988 and 1994 ). His students won a total of 67 gold, 34 silver and 35 bronze medals at world and European championships as well as the Olympic Games.
Stanislaw Schuk is the brother of the 1968 Olympic champion in pair skating, Tatjana Schuk .
