The 74th World Figure Skating Championships took place from March 20-25, 1984 in Ottawa ( Canada ).

At these world championships the former vice world champion Norbert Schramm ended his career in an unusual way. In the middle of the run he drove to the gang, explained to the Italian referee Sonia Bianchetti that he was withdrawing from the competition and then did not participate in any competition.
