1980 ◄ 1981 ► 1982 |
The 71st World Figure Skating Championships were from 3 to 7 March 1981 Hartford in the US state of Connecticut instead.
The point system has been changed. The compulsory program became less important in the individual competitions and only made up 30% of the overall ranking. The short program was rated with 20% and the freestyle with 50%. The placement in each category was multiplied by the appropriate factor and the three results were added to the total score. The factors were 0.6 for the compulsory program, 0.4 for the short program and 1.0 for the freestyle. The judges determined the rank in the individual competitions according to the 6.0 point system. In the pair competition, the short program had a factor of 0.4 and the freestyle had a factor of 1.0. Here, too, the placements were determined by the judges according to the 6.0 point system.
