The 39th World Figure Skating Championships in 1948 took place from February 11th to 15th, 1948 in Davos ( Switzerland ).
Athletes from Germany and Japan were also excluded from the second tournament after World War II . With the victory of Richard Button , the first victory of an American in a world championship, a twelve-year dominance of the Americans in the men's competition began.
