Hellmut May
Hellmut May (born June 9, 1921 , † November 11, 2011 in Richmond , British Columbia ) was an Austrian figure skater who started in a single run .
May's career was interrupted by World War II. In the 1940s he was Austrian vice-champion in figure skating four times , always behind Edi Rada . He took part in his only European championship in 1939 and finished it in ninth place. In his only World Cup participation in 1948, he finished eighth. May played two Olympic Games . In 1936 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen he finished 14th and in 1948 in Sankt Moritz he was eighth.
May went to Canada in 1954 , settled in Vancouver and later became the coach of the Canadian national figure skating team. He was Karen Magnussen's first coach . In 2010 May was inducted into the Canadian Figure Skating Hall of Fame.
