The 37th World Figure Skating Championships took place for men and couples from February 17 to 19, 1939 in Budapest ( Hungary ) and for women on February 11 and 12, 1939 in Prague ( Czechoslovakia ).

It was the last world championship before World War II . The Austrian athletes Edi Rada , Emmy Putzinger , Anita Wägeler , Ilse Pausin and Erik Pausin and the juror Dr. H. Deistler represented the German Empire . Former Austrian athlete Herbert Alward represented Hungary .
