Alfred Hirv (born March 26, 1880 in Pechory , † May 26, 1918 in Pskow ) was an Estonian painter who was particularly known for his still lifes .

life and work

Alfred Hirv was born on March 26, 1880 in Pechory. At the age of 15 he moved to Saint Petersburg . In 1907, the Saint Petersburg Artists Association invited him to take part in their exhibition. Hirv also showed his works in Tallinn and Tartu , but did not settle in Estonia . He studied with Julius von Klever at the St. Petersburg Academy of Art . Hirv also undertook study trips to Rome , Munich , where he attended Anton Ažbe's school, Paris and Spain . After that he lived permanently in Saint Petersburg. Hirv died on May 26, 1918 in Pskow at the age of 38 .

During his studies, Hirv turned to still life in the style of the Dutch Golden Age . These formed the most important work complex and enjoyed great popularity. In addition, Hirv also painted portraits , nudes and figurative paintings.
