Todd Kenneth Sand (born October 30, 1963 in Burbank , California ) is a retired American figure skater who competed in individual skating for Denmark and pair skating for the United States .

Life

Sand started as a single runner and competed for Denmark, as he has both US and Danish citizenship. He took part in the World Championships in 1981 and 1982 and finished 19th and 22nd respectively. At the European Championships in 1982 and 1983 he was nineteenth.

Sand, which is now starting for the USA, began in pair skating in 1985 at Lori Blasko's side , but only on a national level, as the pair could not qualify for international competitions. His next figure skating partner was Natasha Kuchiki in 1989 . With her he became US pair skating champion in 1991 . At the 1991 World Cup in Munich , they won the bronze medal behind Natalja Mischkutjonok and Artur Dmitrijew, as well as Isabelle Brasseur and Lloyd Eisler . She finished sixth at the 1992 Albertville Olympics .

It was at these Olympics that Sand fell in love with Jenni Meno . From 1993 she also became his new figure skating partner. From 1994 to 1996 they won the US championships . From 1993 to 1998 they participated in world championships and never finished worse than in fifth place. In 1995 and 1996 they won the bronze medal. In 1998 in Minneapolis they celebrated their greatest success. They became vice world champions behind the Russians Jelena Bereschnaja and Anton Sicharulidze . At the 1994 Olympics in Lillehammer , Sand and Meno finished fifth and at the 1998 Olympics in Nagano they were eighth.

Todd Sands pair skating coach was John Nicks . After his amateur career, the couple ran for six seasons in the ice revue "Stars on Ice".

Todd Sand and Jenni Meno have two sons - Jack, born in 2004, and Matthew, born in 2006.

Sand took part in the television show Dancing on Ice on the British television channel ITV . His partner here was Kelly Holmes . Sand is also a technical specialist at ISU and works as a trainer.
