Ronald Edmund "Ron" Ludington (born September 4, 1934 in Boston , Massachusetts , † May 14, 2020 in Newark , Delaware ) was a former American figure skater who started pair skating .

Together with his wife Nancy Ludington , he was US pair skating champion from 1957 to 1960 . You were trained by Cecilia Colledge . The couple took part in world championships during the same period . They finished fourth in 1957 , fifth in 1958 and sixth in 1960 . The Ludingtons won their only world championship medal in Colorado Springs in 1959 with bronze behind Canadians Barbara Wagner and Robert Paul and the Germans Marika Kilius and Hans-Jürgen Bäumler . Also at their only Olympic Games in 1960 in Squaw Valley they won the bronze medal behind the Canadians and Germans.

After the end of his competitive career, Ludington became a coach. His first students were ice dancers Patricia and Robert Dineen , who were both members of the 1961 US team that was killed in a plane crash. Ludington himself didn't have the money to fly, which saved his life. It was the only world championship from 1957 until the end of the century that Ludington was not present as a runner or coach. His other students included Caitlin and Peter Carruthers , the 1984 Olympic silver medalists in pair skating.

After divorcing Nancy, Ludington married Mary Batdorf, better known today as Mary Scotvold . Both trained at the Skating Club of Wilmington and have a son. This marriage also ended in divorce in the mid-1970s. Ludington married Karen, who is also a figure skating coach. Ludington is the director of the Skating Science Development Center for the University of Delaware Figure Skating Club. He was inducted into the Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 1999 .
