Beatrix Suzetta Loughran (born June 30, 1900 in Mount Vernon , New York , † December 7, 1975 in Long Beach , New York ) was an American figure skater who started in single and pair skating .
Career
In the individual race, she was US champion from 1925 to 1927 , after she had already become runner-up behind Theresa Weld Blanchard in 1922 and 1923 . She only took part in a single world championship , namely in Oslo in 1924 , where she won the bronze medal behind Herma Szabó and Ellen Brockhöft . For this she played two Olympic Games and won a medal in both. In 1924 in Chamonix she surprisingly won silver behind Herma Szabó, although her compatriot Weld Blanchard had actually been favored, and in 1928 in St. Moritz she won bronze behind Sonja Henie and Fritzi Burger .
In pair skating, Loughran won the US championship title from 1930 to 1932 on the side of Sherwin Badger . With him she contested three world championships . In 1928 they were fifth and in 1930 and 1932 they won the bronze medal. They also took part in two Olympic Games . In 1928 in St. Moritz they placed fourth and in 1932 in their native Lake Placid they won silver behind the French Andrée and Pierre Brunet . Loughran is thus the only American woman who could win three Olympic medals in figure skating.
