McLaren MP4 / 7
The McLaren MP4 / 7 is a Formula 1 racing car from the McLaren team that was used in the 1992 World Cup . The first races of the season were driven with the last year's model, the MP4 / 6B , which had been further developed . After that, with the exception of one race, the MP4 / 7A model was used, which, according to the original plan, was to make its debut from the fourth race. But the strong competition from Williams prompted Ron Dennis to start the new car in the third race. At the Grand Prix of Great Britain , the model came MP4 / 7B used. The car, developed by Neil Oatley and Henri Durand , was driven by Ayrton Senna and Gerhard Berger , won five races and took a pole position . For the first time since 1987 and the beginning of the cooperation with Honda, McLaren could neither win the drivers nor the constructors' championships.
The MP4 / 7A and -7B were driven by a V12 engine from Honda with a 75 ° cylinder bank angle and the type designation RA122E / B. The longitudinally front built of the rear axle naturally aspirated engine was 3496 cc and provided at 14,400 min -1 approximately 780 hp (774 bhp). The power transmission was taken over by a transversely installed 6-speed transmission from McLaren with a semi-automatic gearshift, which had been developed in cooperation with TAG Electronic Systems . The monocoque was made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic .
