The McLaren MCL35 is the Formula 1 - racing cars from McLaren for the Formula 1 World Championship 2020 . It is the 48th McLaren Formula 1 car and was presented in Woking on February 13, 2020 .
Technology and development
Like all Formula 1 vehicles of 2020, the McLaren MCL35 is a rear-wheel drive monoposto with a monocoque made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) . In addition to the monocoque, many other parts of the vehicle, including the body parts and the steering wheel, are made of CFRP. The brake discs are also made from a composite material reinforced with carbon fibers.
The MCL35 is the successor to the MCL34 . Since the technical regulations for the 2020 season remained largely stable, the vehicle is largely a further development.
The MCL35 is powered by a 1.6-liter V-6 engine of Renault in the middle of the vehicle with turbocharger and a 120 kW strong electric motor , so it is a hybrid electric vehicle . The force transmits a sequential with paddle shifters operated eight-speed transmission. The vehicle has only two pedals, an accelerator pedal (right) and a brake pedal (left). Just like many other functions, the clutch , which is only used when starting from a standstill, is operated via a lever on the steering wheel.
The total width of the vehicle is 2000 mm, the width between the front and rear axles 1600 mm, the height 950 mm. The front wing has a width of 2000 mm, the rear wing of 1050 mm and a height of 820 mm. The diffuser is 175 mm high and 1050 mm wide. The car is equipped with 305 mm wide front tires and 405 mm wide rear tires from the standard supplier Pirelli , which are mounted on 13-inch wheels.
Like all Formula 1 vehicles since 2011 , the MCL35 has a Drag Reduction System (DRS), which reduces the drag of the vehicle on the straights by flattening part of the rear wing , if it is allowed to be used. The DRS is also activated with a switch on the steering wheel of the car.
The MCL35 is equipped with the Halo system , which has been mandatory since 2018 , which offers additional protection for the driver's head.
Painting and sponsorship
The MCL35 is mainly painted in orange, blue and anthracite. The orange papaya spark is the official color of McLaren, which was used in the late 1960s.
It advertise Arrow Electronics , Automation Anywhere , BAT , CNBC , Dark Trace , Dell , Estrella Galicia , FxPro , Hilton Worldwide , the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology , Klipsch , Pirelli, engine supplier Renault, Splunk and watchmaker Richard Mille on the vehicle .
driver
McLaren competes again in the 2020 season with the driver pairing Carlos Sainz jr. and Lando Norris .
