Arrow Electronics is an American electronics distributor.

history

Arrow Electronics was founded in 1935 as a single radio business in Manhattan . In 1968, Glenn, Green & Waddell acquired the company for $ 1 million. In 1971 Arrow was the tenth largest retailer of electronics parts in the United States, but market leader Avnet was eight times the size. An aggressive growth strategy was pursued in the 1970s, and a computerized inventory system was introduced in 1974. In 1979 Arrow took over Cramer Electronics and went public ( NYSE ).

A hotel fire in 1980 killed 13 senior managers. Waddell therefore recruited Stephen P. Kaufman from McKinsey in 1982 . First as President and from 1986 to 2000 as CEO , he carried out around 50 corporate takeovers and expanded internationally.
