The McLaren MP4-31 is the Formula 1 - racing cars from McLaren-Honda for the Formula 1 World Championship 2016 . It is the 44th McLaren Formula 1 car. The vehicle was featured on the McLaren team's website on February 21, 2016.
Technology and development
The MP4-31 is the successor and further development of the MP4-30 from the previous year.
The MP4-31 is powered by a 1.6-liter V6 engine from Honda with a turbocharger . It is the ninth McLaren Formula 1 racing car to have a Honda engine. Below the exhaust there are two additional exhaust pipes through which the exhaust gases from the turbocharger's wastegate flow.
McLaren uses a new design of the front suspension on the MP4-31; the upper of the two rear wishbones is mounted much lower on the vehicle than on other vehicles. This ensures better air flow around the side pods.
Painting and sponsorship
The MP4-31 is painted black and has red accents.
As in the previous model, large parts of the car, including the side pods, are without sponsor stickers. On the engine cover, the team's lubricant supplier, ExxonMobil , advertises its Mobil 1 brand . Moët & Chandon advertises on the vehicle, and stickers from CNN , engine supplier Honda, Pirelli , SAP and Segafredo Zanetti can also be found on the vehicle.
driver
McLaren will also compete in 2016 with drivers Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso . Button's seventh season in a row at McLaren, Alonso the second. Stoffel Vandoorne is a substitute and test driver.
