The Haas VF-16 is the Formula 1 - racing car of Haas F1 for the Formula 1 World Cup 2016 . It is the team's first Formula 1 car. The car was presented to the public on February 21, 2016 via the Internet. The name of the car is a reference to the VF-1, the first CNC machine that Haas Automation produced. Although the V stands for vertical , the name of the machine was used in-house as an abbreviation for Very First One (German: Allererste ).

Technology and development

The VF-16 is a completely new development, the chassis is manufactured by Dallara . The VF-16 is powered by the Ferrari 059/5 , a 1.6-liter V6 engine from Ferrari with a turbocharger .

In addition to the engine and the ERS, Haas purchases various other parts of the vehicle from Ferrari, including the transmission, all mechanical parts, the rear crash structure, the hydraulics, the driver's seat and even the steering wheel.

Painting and sponsorship

The VF-16 is painted in silver, red and black. Except for Haas Automation on the side pods and the rear wing, Richard Mille on the side of the vehicle nose and Telcel on the mirrors, there are no sponsor stickers on the car.

In the 2016 season, Haas will compete with drivers Esteban Gutiérrez and Romain Grosjean . Gutiérrez was previously a test driver for Ferrari, Grosjean moved from the Lotus team to Haas, which Renault took over before the start of the season .
