With Sebastian Vettel (four times), Hamilton (three times), Fernando Alonso (twice), Kimi Räikkönen and Jenson Button (once each), five former winners competed in this Grand Prix. Alonso and Hamilton each won the Japanese Grand Prix once when the race was held at Fuji Speedway in 2007 and 2008 .
The race stewards were Garry Connelly (AUS), Takashi Mitarashi (JAP), Emanuele Pirro (ITA) and Vincenzo Spano (VEN).
Vettel was moved three positions back in this race on the grid because he had caused a collision with Rosberg at the Malaysian Grand Prix and was then eliminated, so that there could no longer be punished.
