Suzuka ( Japanese 鈴鹿 市 , -shi ) is a city in Mie Prefecture on Honshū , the main island of Japan .

history

An important east-west road link ran through Suzuka since the Asuka period . In the center of the city was the Kambe Castle ( 神 戸 城 , Kambe-jō), of which remains are still preserved. In the area of ​​today's city of Suzuka there were two post stations ( 宿 場 町 Shukuba-machi ) of the Tōkaidō during the Edo period : Ishiyakushi and Shōno.
