geography

Matsusaka City Hall

Matsusaka is located west of Ise and south of Tsu on the Ise Bay

history

The city's history dates back to the year 1580, when Oda Nobukatsu the castle Matsugashima built. Matsusaka Castle was built in 1588, of which the foundation walls are still preserved today.

Agriculture

The city is known for the Matsusaka beef. The meat from the cows, some of which are fattened with beer, is so expensive that it has become synonymous with an extravagant lifestyle in Japan. At a cattle auction, a buyer paid a price of 50 million yen (around 360,000 euros) for a Matsusaka cow. (See also: Kobe beef )
