Takashi Etō ( Japanese 衛 藤 昂 ; * February 5, 1991 in Suzuka ) is a Japanese high jumper .
Athletic career
Takashi Etō gained his first international experience at the 2010 Junior World Championships in Moncton , Canada , where he was eliminated with 2.05 m in qualification. The following year he was at the Asian Championships in Kobe with 2.24 m skipped fourth and two years later at the Asian Championships in Pune with 2.18 m seventh. In 2014 he took part in the Asian Games in Incheon , South Korea for the first time and finished eleventh with 2.15 m. In 2015 he won the Asian Championships in Wuhan with 2.24 m and thus qualified for the World Championships in Beijing , where he was eliminated with 2.22 m in qualification . The following year he took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he also did not qualify for the final with 2.17 m .
In 2017 he again took part in the World Championships in London , but did not reach the final with 2.22 m . At his second Asian Games in Jakarta in 2018 , he finished sixth with a jump over 2.24 m. The following year he won the silver medal behind Syrian Majd Eddin Ghazal at the Asian Championships in Doha with 2.29 m . He also qualified for the World Championships there in October, where he was eliminated with 2.17 m in qualification .
In 2016, 2017 and 2018 Etō became Japanese champion in high jump.
