Woo Sang-hyeok (born April 23, 1996 ) is a South Korean high jumper .

Athletic career

Woo Sang-hyeok gained his first international experience at the 2013 World Youth Championships in Donetsk , where he won the gold medal with a height of 2.20 m. In the year he also won the bronze medal at the Junior World Championships in Eugene with 2.24 m. In September he took part in the Asian Games in Incheon , South Korea for the first time and finished tenth with 2.20 m. In 2015 he took part in the Asian Championships in Wuhan and also finished tenth with 2.10 m. He then reached fifth place with 2.24 m at the Summer Universiade in Gwangju . At the Asian Indoor Championships in Doha in the following year, an eleventh place followed and he also took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he could not qualify for the final with 2.26 m .

In 2017 he won the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar with 2.30 m and thus received a bye for the World Championships in London , where he was eliminated with 2.22 m in qualification . Two weeks later he was eighth at the Student World Games in Taipei with a height of 2.20 m. In 2018 he again took part in the Asian Games in Jakarta , where he won the silver medal behind the Chinese Wang Yu with 2.28 m . At the Asian Championships in Doha he was unable to defend his title and finished seventh with a skipped 2.19 m.

In 2015, 2016 and from 2018 to 2020 Woo became the South Korean champion in high jump.
