Lee Hup Wei (born May 5, 1987 in Kajang ) is a Malaysian high jumper .
Athletic career
Lee Hup Wei gained his first international experience at the 2005 Asian Championships in Incheon , where he finished eighth with 2.10 m. He then finished fifth at the Southeast Asian Games in Manila with 2.11 m. In 2006 he finished fifth at the Junior Asian Championships in Macau and was eliminated from the qualification at the Junior World Championships in Beijing with 2.10 m. This was followed by participation in the Asian Games in Doha , where he reached fifth place with 2.15 m. In 2007 he won the gold medal at the Asian Championships in Amman with a new national record of 2.24 m. Then he also won the Southeast Asian Games in Nakhon Ratchasima with 2.19 m. In 2008 he qualified for the first time for the Olympic Games in Beijing and was eliminated there with 2.20 m in the qualification .
At the Asian Championships in 2009 in Guangzhou , he finished fifth with 2.15 m and won again at the Southeast Asian Games in Vientiane . In 2010 he took part in the Asian Indoor Championships in Tehran for the first time , where he finished 13th with 2.05 m. This was followed by participation in the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi , where he reached fifth place with 2.23 m. At the beginning of November he finished ninth at the Asian Games in Guangzhou with 2.15 m. In 2011 he won the Southeast Asian Games in Palembang again with 2.15 m. In 2012 Lee qualified again for the Olympic Games in London , but failed again this time with 2.16 m in the qualification .
At the Asian Championships in 2013 in Pune , 2.10 m reached 13th place, which he also finished at the Asian Championships in 2015 in Wuhan with 2.05 m. In 2017 he jumped sixth at the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar with 2.20 m and won the silver medal behind his compatriot Nauraj Singh Randhawa at the Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur with 2.24 m . In 2018 he again took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast and finished eighth there with 2.21 m. In August he reached tenth place at the Asian Games in Jakarta with 2.20 m. The following year he reached fourth place at the Asian Championships in Doha with 2.26 m. He also qualified for the World Championships there in October, where he finished eighth with 2.27 m in the final . At the beginning of December he won the Southeast Asian Games in Capas , where he jumped 2.21 m.
In 2005, Lee became the Malaysian high jump champion.
