Asian Athletics Championships

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Asian Athletics Championships are athletics competitions organized by the Asian Athletics Association (AAA) every two years. The first championships took place in 1973 in the Philippine capital Manila . The 1977 championships in Tokyo , Japan were canceled by the world association IAAF due to political problems, as there was no agreement on Israel's participation . As a result, the Asian Championships was downgraded by the IAAF and carried the name Asian Track and Field Meeting from 1979 to 1989 ( German  Asian Athletics Meeting ). Israel later became a member of the European Athletic Association (EAA) and has since participated in the European Athletics Championships .
